Posted: Sat Sep 15, 2007 1:19 amLooks a bit soft to me. Colours don't jump. Although I like the red reflection in the water it just looks a bit pedestrian. 
Maybe better at some other time of day...dusk or morning depending on your sleeping pattern...and a more imaginative angle (maybe closer, lower, with WA lens...just a guess)

Thanks for feedback Simon. The image is actually tack sharp but suffers from severe compression for web use, as for WA lens, well I only have a 70-200mm at the moment so it will have to do!

Great subject but you need to pick more sympathetic light. Soft and misty is called for. Onother thing I notice with digital photographers is that they rarely use very large F stops. Next time you go out force yourself to use F2.8 for every shot as an exercise and see if you like the result.

Some good points here Matt. It was getting on late in the afternoon when the light was starting to turn golden, however, the gardens were about to close and I didn't want to be locked in for the night!
Will try wide open next time. The 70-200 is noticeably soft at 2.8 and so I avoid using it there if I can but it is definitely worth a try. Thanks for the feedback.
