Angry skies.

Would like some feedback on this shot please.

It looked so much better in real life. I suppose the limit of the cameras dynamic range is the problem. By my eye the sunset was alot more orange, and the clouds alot more bluey grey. Oh well.

i think it may have worked better if you metered off the sky to the left where it's darker. you probably would have blown the sun on the right but the image would have been alot brighter and probably captured the colour of the sky/ cloud a little better.

it was a beautiful sky tonite. i;'m glad someone grabbed a shot of it.

Norbs - not sure if this is what you meant????

Image

If you would like this version removed, I'll take it off straight away, but this is how I interpreted what you said ..... selective dodge of highlights and midtones, increased saturation and a layer with orange where the sunset was ...... I really wanted to bring out the detail of the reflections and also in the trees on the edge of the water to give the shot a lift.

I love this shot - beautiful composition :)

Wow, I'm nearly tempted to replace my Flickr photo with that version. It certainly is more like what I saw, but, and I know I am going to get slaughtered here,I reckon its a bit too much PP. But thanks anyway, it certainly brings the shot to life.

Well, the majority of the people on this forum are Pro PP. I take a more gently gently approach. I do as little as possible. partly because I don't have the PP skills, and partly because I don't think you should polish a turd. :) And, I remember the shite fight that went on with another member ages ago re. PP.

That said, I am in awe of the PP skills of some of the people here, and would never try and tell them what to do, its just that its not my thing.

Do you happen to have a large version of the above, I might do a little experiment on Flickr. :)

No worries :)

And it definitely wasn't a turd ;)

just copy the bits between the url tags - that way you can actually get to the photo

Thanks very much. Will credit you with the polishing. Somewhat fitting given your user ID. :)

Thats the link to the photo if you want to keep an eye on what people are saying.

Great composition norbs. I like the way all the lines are draw the eye to the sunset. The PP version shows great skill and improves the picture IMO but I'm a bit with norbs on the polishing a turd (love that expression) analogy, not that the original is a turd.
Having said that, if I hadn't seen the original the PP version would be a contender for pic of the month for the mix of composition and colours, I really like it.

I would agree with that assessment norbs. But it is on the right path.
