HM Bark Endeavour in Newcastle

Hi,

I made it out on Friday to see the Endeavour replica arrive in Newcastle Harbour. I was at Stockton to get these photos.

The Endeavour saluting Newcastle with a canon blast. On the right, that's the little tug boat that will help it go and dock later on.

The Endeavour is now well and truly in the harbour having just passed the Nobbys Lighthouse.

The images above we taken with D200, 70-300mmED. The first one was cropped, it is about 60%.

I got plenty more from the day and also from this morning at sunrise. I managed to also get the James Craig leaving Newcastle but won't bore you too much with lots of ship photos.

C&C appreciated.

Cheers,

André

I like both shots - great colour and composition in both. In the first one, I'd be tempted to clone out the buoy(?) in the background between the Endeavour and the Tugboat; and in the second perhaps crop out the building on the far left hand side of the photo?

Both are wonderful images, but I like #1 because it doesn't have Nobbys muddying the background. I can't wait to see more from this outing.

I'm glad it didn't run aground :)

Nice shots. Good timing for the one with the cannon shot in it.

Sensational shots, I was privileged to tour the Endeavour replica in Brisbane 7-8 years ago, a real historic treat. Your photos are vibrant in colour, and very well cropped.

Thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.

I've got a few variations on the second shot, I'll see which one is better in terms of distractions.

Matt, it would be great to have a whole flottila of them. The most I could muster was two yesterday morning, I'll process them in the next couple of days but the weather wasn't as nice, so those ones will likely look better in b&w.

Cheers,

André

Here is a slight variation on the second on with the Endeavour a bit further in front of Nobbys.

The second shot with Nobbys is better IMHO as the rigging is more silhouetted against the sky. All of these are really nice and sharp too - forgot to comment on that before.

Great shots (ha ha - the canon)

This reminds me of the Sailing in Company that I had the pleasure to do
with Stubbsy in Sydney quite a while ago.

Thanks for sharing,
