i had to tak a self portrait for a magazine im contributing to (its even written on my hand...), so i thought i'd have a bit of a muck around with lighting etc.

this is the shot i liked the most, i'd like some opinions... it's the first time i've had a crack at this sort of thing, so dont be too harsh... but don't go easy either!!!

taken with my d70s wearing a 50mm 1.8

Image

the camera is sharper than me, on purpose, i wanted it to be more about the fact im a photo guy... the camera is my tool...

Hmm... It's crap in a nice sort of way...

Kidding. I like it.
I think it works well. I'd probably just suggest a bit more light on the camera itself. It looks just a little bit dark.

If you are going for that effect (which I also think works well), try making it even more out of focus. You might have to use PS to do it though.

James,

I like the shot and the graffiti. I think it fits in well with your target audience.

I agree that the camera needs a little more ligh on it.

I would suggest as a total spin out, to have your left eye looking at the viewer instead of the focus point of the camera.

Cheers

thanks for the crit guys

first ever go at portrait style lighting, im pretty happy with it.

any of the model photography heads want to weigh in with crit at all? how i could improve lighting etc.

i think i had two flashes, one behind me to the right pointed at the ceiling (to diffuse) and one in front to the left pointed at the ceiling too.
