2 birds in the bush

G'day
Neither myself, nor the 18-200mm seem that suited to "wildlife" photography, but still that's no reason to not try. I think the bokeh from the lens is quite good.

Nikon D70S ISO 200; Nikkor 18-200mm F5.6 @ 200mm Handheld 1/60sec on camera flash from 15metres

Nikon D70S ISO 200; Nikkor 18-200mm F8 @ 200mm Handheld 1/80sec
Short of getting a better lens (can't afford) and camera (coming) is there anything in particular I should be trying to do? or avoid?
