Just testing more lighting techniques with coloured gels

One light with a reflector (re: A4 piece of paper)

Pretty much out of the camera.

Settings:
ISO 200
1/200s
f16

SB800 on 1/8 power and light was modified with grid to narrow the beam

No. 2 looks better as far as lighting goes. The 3D shape looks better, probably because of the way the object is positioned relative to the camera. I also like the reflection in the 2nd one. No. 1 looks a bit flat in terms of shape flat the lighting brought out. No. 2 looks a bit weired at the top as if it dented. May be it is. I think though both of them would benefit from bringing out the subject by using longer focal length or coming in closer. Perhaps also another light from the upper backside would bring out the large shadow areas at the top.

Not sure what you mean by using a longer focal length though as this was already at 70mm. Agree with the side light on the left - will look into that one.

Sorry for double post too. I meant the subject would benefit from being more dominant in the image, I think. I asked whether it was an egg as the heart shape is not obvious as it is small relative to the background. So I think either coming in closer or using a longer lens would help.

Nice shots.
You might want to be careful with the photoshopping. I can see a few of your paint brush strokes in the second shot.
