I recently visited Xi'an and obviously the magnificent Terracotta Warriors which are >2,000 years' old. It's a dream come true. Here are some pics from the trip.



They are all in ruin that were being (still are) put together pieces-by-pieces (only 1 in complete form, a kneeling archer).







It's a trip I won't ever forget!

They are all good but 3# is my favourite... Did you take any long shots showing detail of one warrior with others in the background? That may be stronger than the 1#

A more closeup one but then it didn't just give the atmosphere of being there. Probably just me....

Love #4, it looks like it should be really big until you see the plant in the background, is that the longman grottos by the river?

I think the warriors have a little too much colour in them - I feel that there is too much red in the picture (yes I know they are terracotta , but they are very faded). Not a lot too much, just a little (one of mine here - http://www.pbase.com/justin_aus/image/49754357)

yeah, it's in the Longmen Grottoes. I was furious with some visitors who were clearly trying to touch the relics when they have been barricaded and signs were visible not to touch. Even the guides from the park repeatedly asked visitors not to touch them! It's the attitude of these visitors that is ruining relics. My dad showed me there were even names being scratched into the stones/walls!

Anyway, that's the whole point of including the plant. I caught the sight and immediately snap the scene when those around me were wondering what am I doing!

On the reddish of terracottas, I don't think I change any of the tones but I agreed that the soil is not as red from memory.
