I took this for Weekender 4... Window, but in the end I felt that another photo said "Wiindow" better than this one.
Still it was an interesting experiment in balancing flash to ambient

As always I am interested in how to improve it


I think I should have been more square on to the fireplace as I was unable to get all the horizontals to line up.
Perhaps there is a better way to do this than the straghten tool in CaptureNX.

hmmm.... i would hav adjust your focus slightly, and put the glass of red wine in focus and blurred the fireplace out, as well as only lighting up the glass of wine, to give the picture a more romantic feel and to tone down the mood.

potentially good photo there i think.

think you did a great job balancing flash to ambient , maybe angle flash slightly to remove flash spot on fireplace but like it just the way it is

I focussed the way I did because the intention was to fit the Weekender theme of Window. Thus the important element was the Window into the fire, rather than the glass (it just happened to be there )

Still I agree that had the intention been different, the focus on the glass would have been better. I'd have cleaned the grubby prints off the glass too.

Yep, I agree, even here in Tasmania I would have put the glass of wine as a more important focal point to me than the fireplace
The glass will get blurry in time, after which the fireplace won't even matter.
