On safari

Given that other circumstances have meant that I am not going on my dream African safari for quite some time, this afternoon I decided to explore a location rather closer to home - the untamed jungles of Backyardia.

As luck would have it, I was fortunate enough to spot a rare example of the fabled Backyardian Baby-faced Tiger

This particular species enjoys lurking about in the long grasses of the Backyardian jungles, and is also shown here enjoying a snack of its favourite food, the lesser-spotted Backyardian Plush Giraffe.

On a more technical note, these were shot with the D300 @ f/2.8. The first with the 17-55/2.8 and the second with the 70-200/2.8 VR - gives you an interesting look at the differences in perspective and background blur you can get with the two focal lengths. Just a smidgen of fill-flash with an SB-800 and Lightsphere diffuser/dome.

These came straight out of the camera with a rather warm glow to it due to the late afternoon sun - I colour corrected for it, but was undecided as to whether I should have left a touch of orange in it.

Also as a side-note, I knew I neglected the lawn-mowing for a valid reason!!! We are going to get some great shots in the coming weeks until I could be bothered cutting the grass! :)

These 2 pics are even better than those you have posted before. The second shot stands out for both colour saturation and amazing DOF. Shot #1 , although delightful, suffers from backfenceardia :D

Your little one will either love you to death or hate you, in 15 years time

Really nice shots.

The differences from the two focal lengths is interesting.

Des,

I think the wb for these is spot on, so no, there was no real need to leave in a touch of orange.

As it is, and as noted by Chris, the saturation in the second of these is really nice, and it's a little bit different from the first. I don;t think that's a problem, but just something to note.

Des,

love the shots, I prefer the pose in the first, and the DOF / seperation in the second as Chris said a little less backyard in the second make a more compelling image.
