Hi,

went out to photograph the Redhead Shark Tower in the moonlight. Got there just when the clouds were rolling in. It was also blowing a gale, high tide, cold but had a fun time



Nikon D700, 17-35mm at 17mm, f/16, 20 min. exposure.

I did a bit of light painting on the tower and the closer rocks, thanks to a Wolf Eye Angel A torch. Great little torch BTW. I couldn't take many shots, only the one, the tide was coming in and the rock I was on was getting surrounded by water more and more, so decided to cut it short With noise reduction on the camera, one 20 min. exposure actually takes 40 minutes! It was still NR by the time I got back home.

I like the cloud effect in the shot but can't help wondering what it would look like as a monochrome print..

I agree, the clouds are great. Overall, I reckon straigtening the verticle on the tower, if possible, would strengthen the image. In my view, the lights on the horizon are a bit distracting, but I am guessing there isn't much you can do about it?

very nice! good call in not going another shot, you dont want to get wet when it is this cold!

Patrick, good point on the verticals, I'll see what I can do. The lights are the coal ships waiting to be loaded, not much I can do about them other then cloning them out.

Try perspective correction in photoshop to fix the verticals...just a thought.

About the lights, I dont mind them, I guess it is a personal choice. I think they add to the image as if there was a point for the tower to be there in the past...something like that.

Very surreal Andre, I don't mind the angle of the tower, it gives the impression of straining against the incoming clouds. Only one attempt? On a nice single digit temperature night I would have thought 3 or 4 shots
