I've been home sick the past few days and this has given me time to catch up on my blog and has now given me a bit of time to put some work up here for you guys to have a look at.

A while back i got a bit of new lighting gear, nothing special really just some stands, brollies and wirless triggers. And instantly had a chance to have a play with on a family portrait type shoot for a couple I know.

I'm interested to know what you guys think,

First we went to a local park grounds in the late afternoon, this shot is my sb600 shooting through a white umberella mounted on my tripod (for portability)


After a ton of shots strobed and unstrobed we moved back to my place where a mateshift studio was constructed out of material and alligator clips.

Nice work, I have been thinking about getting a Nano Stand and some brollies for a while as well. How have you found them for portable work?

I am not a fan of the disembodied hand, but excellent work on the lighting!

Adam, in my humble opinion these are all excellent shots. But the standout is #1. What a lovely use of both natural and artificial lighting.

On another note, what is a mateshift studio

I absolutly love my stands and brollies, not suoer easy to carry around but I manage, thats the reason I only used one light on the outdor shot, I just strap as much to my bigest camera bag as I can and thats normally enough.

Yeah I'm a little disspointed by the appearence of the arm in that shot aswell, I need to work on it an see what I can do.

adame, i love the composition of the first. the presence of those long shadows and the closeness of the subjects in the foreground gives the image a magical feel.

#3 is a competition winner. It is superb and I hope you print and frame it. There is also something slightly scary about the image as the child looks wise/intelligent way beyond his years. Beautiful work!

I'm humbled by all of your nice comments guys, the first image will definitely look great printed.

Number three is a shot I have been meaning to try with a niece. You have executed it beautifully imo. Could you share the setup?

Only if they have what I need . I am after Westcott double fold brollies as well. No point for me having a nice compact stand and then bigger brolly.

Inquired at Vanbar and they dont (didnt a few months ago anyway) stock them. Cant find them in Oz.

Maybe in a bit...I just bought a D60 off ebay....this may become my IR body if I ever find the money for a conversion

2 and 3 I really like. The offset of number 2 is nice and 3 looks great. NIce soft lighting and control of shadows. It might the the speckled back lighting of number 1, but for me it lends a kind of scary look to the image.
