Just back from a day out with the University of Sydney Photographic Society (AKA PhotoSoc) and thought I would share some of my images from the day.

D300 + 17-50mm - f/2.8, 1/50 sec, 200 ISO (single shot - no post process)

D300 + 70-200mm VR - f/2.8, 1/800 sec, 200 ISO (single shot - no post process, shade WB as I wanted the warm tone) - I dont do much in the way of portraiture but here are a few that I took any tips would be awesome.


D60 + 18-200VR - f/5.6, 1/200 sec - opportunist shot

Cameron,

In the first image ... a little less background, and a little more saturation, I think.

In the third, you have the exposure and lighting just right for this image, and the warm tones suit this perfectly. Even the landscape shooting of a portrait works for this one.

I just love the last shot Cameron. It reminds me of the work of Helmut Newton.

Suggestion - a backlit man standing in the open doorway(?) legs akimber and facing the girl would give this shot star status. Conversion to B&W would also be forceful.

However, I believe the colour version is fantastic. The warm light falling on Marilyn ( ) contrasts well with the cold light falling on the environment. Whilst impossible to reshoot, my only suggestion would have been to frame her a bit further to the left. I don't think cropping would have the same effect.

Thank guys. A crop on the first with a bit of post will make it look a lot like Peter's image, but I will have a play around with it. I am not sure what to do with the 2nd....I like it but it seems to be missing something.

I am really chuffed about the last two...I dont usually shoot people (unless it is with a gun on the computer ) and it was great to get some nice people photos. Golden hour light came early so I snapped a few.

I will have a play with the cropping of the last as well.

That last image has to be one of the finest images I've seen from you. It is a fantastic "story" pic and while I'm generally not a big fan of model shots this just blows me away. One to be VERY proud of.

Thanks Peter....I am very happy with both the last two shots..shooting outside my comfort zone and with results that I am happy with...a very rare thing. It means A LOT more coming from you guys though.
