i've been away for a while travelling. Earlier this year i covered an event in the Phillippines. During easter devoted catholic's re-enact the Cruxifiction of Jesus Christ. Some fast for 2 weeks prior and go through self-flagelation then cruxifiction on a cross for atonement of their sins.

A very graphic series there that really tell a story of devotion. Not for the faint hearted but a great photojournalistic set.

Great series Wendell... and I don't know whether you intended this or not,, but I like the way that the strong red motif in the photos steps down through the sequence from a diffuse total body rednessness in the first photo to just the red ribbons in the last photo.

That's amazing Wendell. Your editorial images certainly captured the mood of the event. It's incredible that people feel the need to put themselves through this torture.

Yes, it is a nail. They find the "safe" spot in the hand to hit it through, but still ouch!

These are excellent shots - a great potrayal of this ritual.

And I just love the (I assume) unintended incorrect spelling of crucifixion - it really adds to the theme

#3 is one of the most engaging and intense photos i've seen in recent times. the tight crop works perfectly cos it adds to the intimacy the viewer has with the event. so i'm glad in a way you didnt have a UWA lens.

it is quite simply exceptional in every way and i feel privileged that you shared this with us mate.
