Translucent refraction

hi
this is an advertising job i did for a mens underwear company
they wanted something edgy and not the norm like the standard Calvin Klein look black and white studio look

i decided to prep up a custom perspex composite with translucent light refraction properties
to zoosh up the simplicity of a half naked guy and underwear

also i manipulated the perspex sheets to reflect interesting dappled and coloured light on the model instead of using lighting and gels everything is shot with available light with minimum photoshop(curves) and i used a star filter
I didn't use is a polarizer to darken the blue sky because of the translucent nature of the perspex the polarizer would of cut out lots of interesting light refraction dynamics on the perspex so i decided to forgo the polariser

the concept shows the model interacting with a hyper-real manifestation of eros(a feeling) by using the perspex

behind the scenes you can see here how dull the perspex is when it's not aligned to take advantage of its translucent properties


here the model and my assistants lug the 2 perspe sheets across to the kurnel sand dunes 1 Km from cronulla beach
i actually helped them carry it most of the way but took time out to take this pic

Interesting concept Wendell, I think you have pulled off a very nice effect, however I feel two things jump out at me - in none of the images is the guy looking at the viewer, that makes me wonder what he is so interested in looking at this could well be part of your brief for the project though... the second is your reflection in the second last image.

Its amazing the reflected colour of the perspex, for example looking at the colour of the underwear in the first and compare that to the last image.

Its good to see something other than female models as well - nice work

'Interesting... I thought the crotch was the subject; hence need to stare at the viewer and do a little twinkle as well.. That said, it would be interesting to see some pics of the fella looking at the camera.
