It'd been a while since I posted, shot this a few months ago..he was enjoying the sun as was I

. Shot with the under-rated 70-300G

We should change the name of the 70-300 g lens to "the underrated..." because everytime you guys post with it no one can believe it. Really sharp and good composition. I would like the background rock to be alittle darker so the lizard's head stands out more.

The interesting thing about this photo is, no matter where I'm standing in the room his eyes follow...what kind of witchcraft is this?

Excellent shot of a very misunderstood and wonderful creature!
Hand held or tripod?
I find I can't get really sharp hand helds with the 70-300. Too many nerves and caffeine

Hehehe Graham, this shot was hand held indeed. I'd had a coffee this morning, maybe Nikon accidently made it VR with no badge? Hmm...70-300 for sub $200? I doubt it. Oh it's a very light lens too.

G'day,
Just goes to show it's the operator that makes the difference...

One question though, is it me or is the DOF very short and the lizards feet are soft??? Where you quite close meaning the DOF is narrow/short? I think the EXIF showed F6.3 @ 250mm? It takes me to ask the dumb questions but someone's gotta do it :lol:

You are right, the DOF is short, but that was the intention, I focused purely on the lizards head/eyes only. Not a dumb question at all!

Pretty good portrait, Geoff, especially considering that it's hand held with such shallow DOF.
