I think your extinct Dog ( Probably from the Cave man days of old ) is nice and crisp and great exposure.

I think if you kept all the grass foreground in the shot and crop it just below the back fence line will just make it a bit better. ( IMO )

Mic, I can't believe that you're suggesting that I crop off those Beeyoutiful purple flowers...

It could possibly be a Waterbuck from Southern Africa. They have a coat like a duck that enables them to escape the claws of the big cats by seeking refuge in water (where they often encounter hungry Crocs!!). The easiest way to identify them is by the ring around the bum that makes it look as if they sat on a toilet seat with white paint on it!!

Yes birdy, that pic is from the SA trip - taken with the 70-300G (thanks again!) which performed well for the whole trip (and rarely left f8!)

Couldn't tell you what it is (although it would seem Beetleboy can!) but its a fab picture, where was it, in a zoo, or just sat at the bottom of your garden.

I can tell you those 'Beeyoutiful purple flowers' are thistle's though. Worthy of a macro shot in their own right.

That's quite a compliment, I think. Reznick has a great reputation and I've seen a couple of his excellent images. Thank you very much. I'd be happy if I could get half way to his ability.

No, I've no training in photography or processing. It goes back to that mule thing I mentioned. I'm too stubborn to quit doing something until I get it the way I want it. I've been trying to figure this stuff out for several years now, trial and error, and reading the forums.

Thanks for your kind comments. This critter was in a Chicago zoo, in a pen with several other animals.

Yeah, can you believe that Mic want's them cropped out? Dunno about trying to get a macro of them though. There were also 2 wild pigs in that pen, that looked pretty nasty and mad all the time. The thistles were in the middle of the pen, so it'd take a fast runner to get in there for the shot, and get out, without getting his pants shredded....

I'd be up for the challenge - now, how do I go about getting there?

Maybe I can pop over the border and find a few thistles in bonnie Scotland fo a macro.

Heading up towards the border this weekend if I see one I'll grab a picture (although I don't suppose ours will be in flower yet?).

IIRC, Chicago has direct flights to England, so it's not a lot of fuss... This shot was taken in September, so you've got plenty of time to pack. Since I've been to this zoo once, I'd be happy to be your guide when you get here.

umm, prolly not, unless you much farther into spring than we are here. We're just now starting to get buds on the trees in the Detroit area, which has a seasonal climate similar to Chicago.
