So I popped over to Birdy's last night with some cash in my wallet. I should know by now! Expected to grab a SB800, walked out with said item, charger and batteries, and a Sigma 12-24! And a partridge in a pear tree! Oh well!

Here's the first shot I took with it, just a shot down the driveway, 1/200 f/8 ISO200:



Once you peak a bit there's a bit of CA, and I also removed most of some awful moire on the powerlines.

Thoughts? It feels like home to me.

Unless there's been some remodelling, that ain't Birdy's driveway.

Yay for your new lust items MCWB... Now which wows you more, the wide angle lens or the flash?

You must have had one fat wallet on arrival. Enough money for a SB-800, battery charger, plus a Sigma 12-24mm. And just left with the wallet - hey, like so many before you , me included.

That lens gives good contrast & sharpness, even though it's not a Nikon.

That's a tough call actually! The lens has a great 'wow' factor for me simply because it's so wide, you can fit so much into the frame. The flash on the other hand takes a lot more fiddling around with (I spent a couple of hours playing with it last night, trial and error stuff) but also has enourmous potential. In short, both mean I can take shots that I previously wasn't able to, or wasn't able to take well. Sounds pretty good to me, I'm very happy with both to be honest. Thanks again to Birdy, you're a champion mate!

Glen: hehe yeah, choice of subject is a little weird at first glance, but I take this shot with all my lenses, it's my standard 'nasty shot'. If the lens is going to misbehave (CA, flare, moire, etc) in my experience it'll do it with this scene (if you pixelpeep). Have you had any moire dramas with this lens? I'll have to try and replicate the problem. ROFL Manta! No, the car is behind me; were it not for the car I'd have had this earlier. Actually I have my old car sitting here, rusty, out of rego and 417000 km on the clock. Is that worth swapping for a Zenitar fisheye do you reckon?

Hi Trent, no moire problems yet, but then many times I use that lens it is more of landscape photo and nothing has produced that yet. Makes sense the skinny driveway being your test shot

Now all you need is some blinds, a empty decanter and to be bored silly and you will then be a member of the ”blind” club

Good observation Chris, although I don't have blinds and I'm almost never bored, I suspect that if the decanter is emtpy I will in fact be quite blind.
