Beautiful Arthur, you are good at these Birdy Shots.

Maybe one day you could get a good one of our Birdy with a big 300mm Nikkor hanging around his neck :D

Mic.

Arthur, what sort of a crop you doing. What sort of distance from camera to subject?

Everytime I've tried to get close to birds they usually run.

Very good shot, yeocsa. :) You must have been pretty close to that critter. The DOF looks to be razor thin.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I am a newbie when it comes to bird photography and have much to learn from fellow photographers.

I could get this close because these like ducks they are accustomed to people. The bird was about 2 meters away from me.

I was using AFS 300F4 + TC1.4X. 1/250 f8. ISO 200. Handheld. Auto WB -2. EV -0.3.

regards,

Arthur

Arthur, I think they threw in a 10kg bag of bird food with your 300mm AFS. Nice shot.

Nah Neeper - Arthur was just saying they, like ducks, have become accustomed to having people around them. Probably so tame they don't even flinch until you pour the marinade on them...

It's actually a Eurasian Coot - Fulica atra - according to Morcombe's Field Guide to Australian Birds.

Thanks, Jethro. There are lots of them around and they are good for target practice.

Arthur.
