Sorry..doesn't do anything for me. Technical stuff aside (composition, exp etc) it just looks like a poorly metered P&S shot to me. I can see what you were trying to achieve so cred for the idea is due!

Just my opinion, please don't take it personally.

Edit: fixed some 1:16am grammar!

Hi

No worries. Everyone has different taste. The duck was backlighted from strong sunlight (even it was late afternoon) and so I used flash to fill in the shadows. A P&S shot will result in a black duck.

cheers,

Arthur

Actually, I'm not sure what beetleboy meant here - 'apart from the composition & exposure, it just looks like a poorly metered P&S shot'. :?: :?:
Must be the 1am posting

The use of fill flash to capture this detail in such a strongly back-lit environment is the furtherest thing from a poorly metered shot you could get IMO.

I guess we're so used to seeing high key people portraits that it's unusual to see a duck treated this way.

Cricketfan, the composition and exposure both are lacking..that's what I meant! To clarify, the composition feels very unbalanced to me (could do with a little more space above the duck to balance it) and the exposure is clearly overcranked causing the colours and detail to wash out! Makes more sense when I post at 10pm!

If it sounds like I'm being harsh it's cos Arthur has produced much better images than this (a couple posted over the couple of days have been very good).

Thanks for comin!
