My first attempt....next time I'll get it better. 7 x 2 min shots stacked. ISO200 and f5.6 I think.

Comments and advice welcome.

Very interesting image. I'm not sure why you took seperate images and stacked them? Is there a reason for doing it that way rather than making one exposure?

Like the foreground visibility, this adds to the effect. Why layer two images though? Why not a longer exposure? Interseting colours in the trails.

really nice shot Wacky.
I like the multi-dimensional look the layering gives the star trails.
The rocks in the foreground look great too.

Well done !

this is a really nice shot
i think it has more potential if you play around with it

how about the rocks more red and the sky more dark/black
with the stars just standing out like crazy

Mainly as I don't know how long an exposure I can do before I start getting noise. I'll have to do some tests with the lens cap on to get an idea, then if need be, do multiples of that to get really long exposures.

The colours you see are exactly as it came out...the sky is light, as the town is over the other side of the hill. The rocks are grey in reality, and show up redish as there are orange street lights about 1km off the the right.

Next weekend I'm going up there again, however I'll be trying to find somewhere further away from the town, to try and get completely black skies. I'll have to see what the moon is doing too as it wasn't up last weekend, and will make a difference to the outcome.

Wacky - it might also be useful if you updated your profile to show your location - then we'd know where you're taking thse shots, for example.
