I was out and about a few days ago and watched this elderly man just doze the afternoon away, it was a crisp Spring day and he had not a worry in the world...so I went snap! Comments/critique welcomed:

Geoff I was expecting to see a big black page Nap get it

Are you sure he is alive, did you get his permission

Only joking, I just hope some bastard didn't clobber him over the noggin and rob him in this sick society ( hmmmm have I become too much of a pessimest  )

I hope he awoke with more spring in his step.

Nice shot.

Mic.
Hmmmm, imagine getting a shot as he got hit on the noggin  :x

Geoff,

You've done the background softening in pp, right?

It reminds me, because, I think, I'm seeing the softness as being induced, of the old posters we used to see at pubs ... "Resch's Refreshes" and all that.

It has that sort of a softness and feel to it ....

I just adjusted the highlights a tad in PS Gary, apart from that straight outa camera.

Interesting.

The wall behind and to the left of the gentleman seems to me to be overly smooth. That's not a bad thing at all, but it's lending a strange feel to the image for me. Can't yet put my finger on what I'm actually experiencing here ...

Boke? Bokeh? etc. Is that the effect on the back wall?

No. Bokeh relates to how OoF highlight points are handled.

The wall seems be strangely devoid of those. :)

are you using a custom curve? the shadow detail is minimal, strong blacks?

I really like staring at this photo. It's such a great capture!

I held up a book to crop out the right hand tree, and like the photo more with that right side tree gone. But that's just me. :)

Nah.. I take it back. I don't think you can take that tree away without removing the other. It's a question of balance. It's just that the right tree distracts my eye somehow.

Great shot Geoff - cant help but wonder if the little plaque by his shoulder reads something like

'If not awake by 6 please nudge me and send me home' :D

Just remember, if we all last this long in life, we will end up doing the same as this gentleman each afternoon: peaceful bliss.
