I was at a company retreat last weekend and snuck out while the others were drinking. THe moon was full and so I was able to catch a few dandies. These were taken at around midnight or so. The glow in the first on I think is from Vancouver. Funny you could barely see it just by looking at it.



This one is looking the other direction.



I find I get a lot of blue in the sky when shooting at night. Thoughts and critique are welcome. Have a gander at the others if you like as well.

I was just enjoying these on the Flickr website Dooda. The first one is a bloody ripper. To me, though, the horizons on both seem to be a degree or so too high on the right. Happy to concede that it may be my tired old eyes, an optical illusion or both. No drinks for me tonight so that can't be the reason..

Great work. The first one is the pick for me by a whisker

The second one is a stunner. Did you say you capture that at midnight??? The sky's quite nice and blue, with the illuminated rocks I thought you capture it at sunset.

If you glance really closely, you can see you captured a few star trails too Unless they're moving dustbunnies or ufos

Dave, those are excellent shots.

Thanks for the comments. Manta, the horizons on these were a little problematic as the land jutted out at different angles. I did correct both horizons a little in photoshop though, so I'm pretty sure they're right on. I love the reflection of the tree in the water on the first one, and the second one I love the movement of the clouds. Thanks all.

Looking at these this morning, with a good night's sleep under the belt, I see what you mean about the uneven land giving the illusion of a slightly tilted horizon.
The bottom line is that these are two absolutely magnificent shots that really demonstrate your eye for suberb imagery. A visit to your Flickr site is both inspirational and despairing - makes me want to throw my camera in the nearest tranquil, reflective lake. How ever will I be able to take shots like that?!

Leigh, I have to agree with Beetleboys post aswell.

On other forums people just use a toast emoticon (two beer glasses chinking together) to respond to peoples images. I feel that Wendels response is in a similar fashion.

Thanks Simon! So funny, when this site first started I was first starting as well and about the only thing I really knew was that I wanted to take kick-ass photos. It was wicked people here like Greg B and Gary and Leigh and Chris etc that encouraged me and told me how to do certain things.

I'm a firm believer that anyone can take really great photos if they really want to, and hang with really good photogs. That's all I did (plus I read the odd mag, but they get a little repetitive.)

At first I wasn't sure if the Fine Art Photography comment was sarcastic, like my photos are pretentious or something. In any case, a small comment is better than nothing (I have a hungry ego).

Awesome stuff, really like these and I swear you could fool most people that these weren't taken at night. Great glassy quality of the water which I really like, thanks for sharing! Also giving me a little hope, that one day I might take a photo that good, just a case of being patient, learning and trying to constantly improve.

That first shot is an absolute stunner. Brilliant - well done
