Africa - Cheetah Series

Hi,

started going through my pictures. We were in a few places in Africa. These were taken in Kenya - Masai Mara. It is an amazing place.

This is one of the cubs(now fully grown) of the original cheetah that started climbing on vehicules, so it would get a better view of the surrounding area. It is just lying on top of the roof of the 4x4.

Image

We found this cheetah, different then above, with a fresh kill of a Thomson's gazelle. Warning, some blood dripping!

Images were taken with my D70s with a 70-300mmED resting on a bean bag.

Comments welcomed.

Cheers,

Radar

Great images, Radar!

Second one might be bit underexposed but it might be just my monitor at work. First one is almost perfect except horizon goes through cheetah head. Just IMHO :)

Radar, Love the first pic looks spot on, the 2nd is good as well not sure if it is the sun going down as it look like it has a colour cast, but still great shot.

Hi,

Hlop, not much choice on the first one, they wouldn't let me out of my 4x4 :(. I do have others with the cheetah in different positions that I'll post later on. I've adjusted saturation and WB a bit on that second one, so should look a bit better.

BBJ, you are right on the second one, it was close to the end of the day, probably around 5pm, sun getting low.

Thanks for comments,

cheers,

Radar

Both great shots Andre.

Looks like it was a good trip - at least photographically. Would really like to go there one day.

Great captures Andre. #1 is superb, but #2 does it for me too because it shows how well the animal's colour blends into the background.

Thanks Peter,

They certainly blend in. We almost missed this cheetah, it was eating the gazelle lying down next to it and we drove probably within 20-30m of it. At the last minute, it lifted it's head above the grasses and one of the guys in the 4x4 just saw it.

In the shot, it was sitting up to keep an eye on a hyena it had spotted in the distance. Fortunately for the cheetah, the hyena didn't see it.

Cheers,

Radar.

Stunning photos André...
One day... One day I'll get to Africa...

#2 is definitely a photo that you wouldn't get in a Zoo... :-)

Great shots Andre. First one is my fav but I agree with Peter's comment about the camouflage aspects of the second shot and I possibly wouldn't have looked at it that way without prompting.
I hope the authorities are having some success in the cheetah breeding program over there to get the numbers growing. Poor blighters are just not genetically set up to survive. All that energy spent on the chase and nothing left to defend the kill against the hyenas.

Great shots Andre!!! :D This is one thing we didn't get to see. No cheetahs in the parks we went to in Zambia. Colour is really nice and what I would expect. Background is really nice on the first one.
