The SB800 Manual

In my quest to get across the many features and capabilities of the SB800, I have printed out a downloaded version of the manual.
As I go through it, I am noting the pages which do not apply to the D70 (and there are quite a few), and I am putting a line through any sentences which do not relate to the D70 (and there are a lot of those too, e.g. for cameras which do not have CLS, or cameras in Group I, etc etc)
These two actions have reduced the information by, I reckon, 20%, and the confusion by even more.
Plus it has forced me to read everything.
Not finished yet, but when I am, I plan to un-PDF the manual and edit out the dross. Ironically, the process will probably mean that I need to refer to the manual much less, but either way, I am hoping for a result!

Greg, you are certainly to be applauded for this effort. It should be of great help to many people, probably even gaining a cult following on the net.

Hi Greg
It's a good thing you're doing there!
Have you seen this? It may be helpful:

Excellent work Greg - I did the same thing for the SB28 - just crossed out the irrelevant parts in the manual and it certainly made life a lot easier

Matt, if I can get to understand the bloody thing a bit better (the manual, not anybody's prostate) I will be a happy man.
There are lot's of small annoyances, the GN chart is for ISO 100 for example. I know we can do the math, but it all just seems slightly more difficult than it needs to be.
And the expression - For cameras with CLS, and Digital SLRs without CLS, and cameras in groups I, II, III and IV - all the time gives the the irrates.
So I am aming for clarity rather than understanding, but hopefully the latter will flow on from the former.

most helpful thing I got out of the SB800 manual was heat, from tossing it in the fire this winter.
Greg, outstanding, I would be happy to translate to Northern (US - I won't say American) English for you, not to be confused with Eastern (real) English.
Cue applause...
Andy
