distant storm & new house

Hi,

My wife and I have finally moved into our new house !! Yipee!

Been here for almost 2 weeks and finally got a little bit of storm action. Quite a way off and nothing too spectacular, but as you can see from the images the covered deck I'm shooting from is set up to be a front row seat when we get a solid lightning show.

I'd be inclined to crop out suburbia and just leave the silhouettes of the hills. For some reason I don't really like to see houses and lighting from suburbs in a lightning shot. However I don't mind seeing cities and their lighting, think their having been a few great shots of lightning cracking over skyscrapers.

some nice shots here.

I think there is enough hold the viewers interest in the clouds /lightning
so I agree that you could have a look at a pano crop and remove suburbia.

Beautiful shots Craig. Thanks for sharing them. I think the cropping is just fine as it stands: The patch of suburbia throws the majesty of the lightning into proportion. Well done!

Here is the cropped version as a few have suggested .... what are your thoughts .... depending on what I was using the image for I still perfer the one with the foregroung if for nothing else but the contrast of power

I think I prefer the uncropped version however this one is still very powerful as it is (cropped). What a difference though. The colours in the sky from the illuminating lightning strike is great...quite ery and powerful!!

there are a heap of raging storms around but these are exceptional. I like the colours and in the clouds the most.

Wow! What a fantastic view you have! These lightning images are wonderful with the CG's (cloud to ground) and the CC's lighting up the cloud structure. Beautiful! Mother nature at her most powerful!

I prefer the uncropped version too . Do you think you might be able to send some storms down my way? I'm getting a little bored with photographing sunsets!

Great set of shots - I like how you've made them different, colour cast wise. There still a bit of what looks like flaring in the bottom left on the cropped version.

Lightning photos used to impress me a great deal, but lately having felt it's wrath upon our house, I can't say it's my favouritest subject ATM.
