Something Different....

Ahoy hoy,

Just thought I'd post these, a little bit of something different. Took them today whilst conducting training at work. All taken with the 70-200 VR, didn't require to many shots to get the results I wanted. It's all about timing (and knowing when the shooter is going to pull the trigger )



This one was a bit early, the second round has yet to be ejected from the pistol, but note all the debris being blown out the barrel. No cropping.



A bit better timing with this one, got two rounds in the air during a rapid fire sequence. No cropping.



My favourite from the day, note the remaining burning powder in the breach of the pistol. No cropping.



Taken from a safer angle. Had to crop this one a little bit just to centre the action.

How were the groupings?

Do these toys have enough firepower to produce sizeable muzzle blast? Did you happen to capture any?

AN excellent group of lovely sharp pics. No question #3 is the standout. WHile it's necessary for you to have this sort of practice, I hope you have the good fortune of never having to use these skills.

Thanks for all the comments. I agree the images look warm, but thats for two reasons, we were standing on a large bright yellow tarp, and it was about 32 degrees and bright as buggary. It helped by being able to use a fast shutter speed, but the day was blisteringly hot, with no breeze at all.

My job is a weapons trainer with the Police, so seeing how these turned out, I'll try to get some others again, maybe try for some better timing. My mate has just been sent to Cronulla for 5 days of 'fun' and wanted to borrow the camera and VR to get some action shots, but I politely declined....

Jeff, sorry mate, it has been a while. I'll email you. The VR is definetly a nice peice of kit, but I don't think the VR really impacted on the shots, I was pretty close anyway, these were taken around the 100 - 130 mm focal length, over the shoulder of the shooter. The lens is definetly sharp though.

The pistol is certainly powerful (take a smith & wesson .40 Cal round for the nerds playing at home) but not much muzzle blast. If it was darker you'd see more, you only really get big muzzle flash in movies where they add magnesium to the gun powder to make it look cool!
