First Portraits with my new studio

I setup my Alien Bees studio. I shot my wife and a friend. I really love my studio lights. I can't believe how much better the results look.

Johhny,

Nice work.

Especially in 2 and 3, where you've achieved great separation between the whites of the subject and background.

Care to share the details of your new setup?

Nice shots, I tend to agree with Gary and prefer the final to shots. Have you performed much PP to these shots, or is this just the result of using your new studio setup... if you could post some shots of the setup that would be greatly appreciated :)

Johnny, I like the lack of harsh shadows you have achieved in these shots.

I think you need to be a bit careful about statements like this these days though:

Very nice...can you take a pic of your setup :D Like the first and second pics and the natural colour of the third pic is great.

Hi Guys, lets see if I can answer all the questions.

First off, I did ZERO PP. You don't need to with lights you can control! Of course the B&W got PP.

Shot #2 was a large soft box pointed down at him at about 30 degrees? I used another light to blowout the white backdrop.

Shot #3 Large soft box to the right, small umbrella for fill on the left.

For backgrounds I have white seamless paper and black velvet. I usually have the subject about 4 feet from the backdrop.

The setup I bought is this one: http://alienbees.com/busy.html

modified my order so I have 2 x B800, 1 x B400 and a B1600.

I will take shot of my studio setup tomorrow. I am already at home.

Thanks for all the compliments. I played some more today and got some cool stuff to show later. I can't believe how much more fun it is to shoot with real lights. Results are fantastic and you control every variable. I think I am hooked on shooting portraits and I want to get into model portfolio development. Maybe shoot for a magazine one day. Maxim?? Anyone there?

#2 is a classic studio shot. The angle and lighting are superlative :)

I've read a lot of good things about those alienbees, and judging by the results you've achieved, money well spent.
