Whilst taking shots of a musical rehearsal, I encountered an odd problem. The stage was lit by two different sets of lights:
1. A small array of Tungsten stage floods aimed at the front of the stage.
2. Generic fluorescents situated on the stage roof (used for people doing work in the rafters).
To the naked eye, the colours of the old gray stage curtains remained gray, but it messed up the white balance in the camera, giving a nice blue backdrop whilst mainting proper warm skintones.
All shots were taken RAW @ 1000ISO and WB was refined in ACR to get the best skin tones.
Enjoy,
beej

The skin tones look good. You are right about the effect of the mixed lighting. The images seem a bit soft. Was that intentional?

It was the intention of my 70-300G lens
Also, @ ISO1000 there was quite a bit of noise, so once I cleaned it up with Noise Ninja, it softened it up a bit more.

Ah, Noise Ninja will do that. Makes sense now. Good pics for the 70-300G though.

Nice skin tones!
Also I found that Neat image is much better for retaining sharpness in photos when reducing noise.
Are we there yet?

I had a job for a client last week that they wanted shot indoors, under about three different types of light, fluro, incandescent and little tungsten ones, as well as day light from skylights.
It was a bloody nightmare. so I shot in RAW and figured out the settings later in PS, turned out okay, client was happy, but it caused no shortage of angst!

Mixed lighting is excellent
it reaks havock on your metering but in time you will find out if you like stage work you will end up using manual settings that you determine from experience to work best under certain lighting conditions
mxed lighting helps get rid of shadows on the face/body but sometimes depending on the lighting director you can get harsh shadows for effect even if there are several high power lights in effect.

I was using AF, but it was very hit-and-miss.
