I blame the poorly manufactured sod who dropped it.

I wonder if it was made in Australia... Photo gallery online <a href="http://photoden.net/oliver">here</a> and some more on deviantArt <a href="http://oliau.deviantart.com">here</a>.
If you look at the image critically it was a combination of factors.
1. Paper flag in the rain is not a good idea 2. Zealous flag waving in wet conditions which resulted in a break. Notice the stresses at the base of the broken flag and pole. 3. The wavier didnt bother to pick up the dismembered flag. And, it was prob manufactured in china to be handled out for free to patrons of the parade.

A great photo and yet another reminder of your keen eye for an image. Peter

Matt,
Some of the greatest photos are those that tell a powerful story without any words. This image does is brilliantly. You should be proud of this one. Cheers Michael
Nice image Matt...
One of the funny things we saw today were the opportunists selling Aussie flags at the rail stations countered by the Australian Postman riding up and down on his motorcycle, his panniers laden with flags that he was handing out to all and sundry free of charge ![]() Cheers, John

www.colberne.com.au I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"

It was a nice image and worthy of comment but flags do nothing for me. I think the people marching in the parade are more important and as an aside never trust a politician waving a flag. Flags are symbolic, sure, but they should never become icons. There have been more than a few dictators in the past that took that approach. I think the ANZACS were fighting for a way of life, not a flag. When you think about it, we can't even agree on the design of the thing yet, which augurs well for us as a nation of individuals in my view.
In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.

I totally agree with Dargan. Although I like the photo that Matt has taken to attach any symbolism to something that was in all probability made in China and stuck on a plastic straw means nothing.
