Hello everyone,
It took me quite sometime to set up the stage. The idea itself wasn't new. Had seen it in a magazine. But what the heck ... it looked cool! This image looks best against a black background as it has a dark grey border around it.
Here's what I was able to achieve:
EXIF data:
Focal Length: 30mm
Aperture: F/11
Shutter Speed: 8 sec.
White Balance: Custom white balance from a white card (the LED was light purple)
As always, comments (both constructive and destructive) are always welcome.

Great work!
Your spiral is very even, it must've taken a lot of patience. How many out-takes did you have?
FYI, there was a very successful version on DPChallenge here.
There's a few things you could take from that version: the moisture on the apple looks fantastic, and the green light really compliments the subject.
I'll have to try one of these soon
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

Great work Kamran! Very creative.
Love seeing creative and innovative work. Even though you think it may not be a new idea, you still went ahead and explored the concept a bit deeper.
I prefer Kamran's spiral but the water beads on the apple in the other pic look divine.

Although I did upwards of 60 shots, the spiral in the 41st shot appealed me most.

I like the idea, and for me I think the Orange suits an advertising campaign more so then the apple, it seems a little more planned and better presented.

Kamran that is a great image you have there. Would you mind sharing how you setup the shot and how it was achieved.
It is something I would love to have a go at but I am not exactly sure how to go about it.
Thanks

You have a much better spiral than the DP person's apple. I do llike the drops on the apple though... Nice shot, anyway.

Cool . Can't imagine having the patience to do 60 takes to get the right shot.

The orange was put on a chair which was covered with a grey cloth. The camera was mounted on tripod. With the lights still on, I locked focus on the orange. I set the camera to Bulb mode. Turned off the lights. Using IR remote, I opened the shutter, did some spirals and closed the shutter when done. Kept retrying until a resonable spiral was achieved.
The spiral was created using a USB lamp (blue/purple LED) so a custom while balane reading was taken in darkness.
All this was done in my bedroom.
And hey, that apple looks quite fresh and very clean ! I have to agree.
As for not being able to see the image, it's working fine with me!

Where was the light inrelation to the camera and the orange ?
I'm just not sure how you achieved the going behind and infront of the orange affect. Thanks,

Hmmmm ... well Craig, the the spiral does go in front and behing the orange .... kind of 3D, if you will !
I started waving the the LED (which was mounted to one end of a stick) from the bottom, going in cicrles around the orange, working my way up while decreasing the radius of the spiral gradually. The full shot had the sipral going quite a long way up but it was cropped as the top bits weren't very nice looking.

Suzanne - what about sitting in a bird hide for 7 weeks on top of a freezing mountain, waiting for a shot of a rare bird (Albert's Lyrebird in this case)?
Beautiful shot indeed
Cheers

On closer inspection I figured it was something like that, did the stick have to be black or non reflective, or it didn't ever appear in the shots ?

It was a metallic steel pipe barely thicker than 4mm. The LED was attatched to it in such a way that it was pointing downward towards the orange. It didn't appear at all in the shots.

OK, I'd like to frame this shot. But what kind of borders would fit it best?
