
Now my question, I see lots of night shots here and there seems to be little noise in the pics.Unlike mine

I was using ISO200 about 6sec at f8 85mm on the old 24-120VR. Any ideas
Does lens type make much difference?

doesnt seem to noisy to me matt.
if u want to reduce it further, programs like neat image and noise ninja do a good job at it. EDIT: also having long exposure noise reduction turned on helps out a bit. Nathan

nah having it on should make noise levels lower

maybe I'm going blind, but I can see any noise in the picture as posted. The NR function doesn't actually reduce "true" noise, but repeatable defects like hot pixels, warm sensor areas, etc. It does that by taking a dark frame after the actual exposure and subtracting that from the image, just like astro-photographers do.
