I like it. Nice use of shallow DOF. Maybe would prefer portrait orientation so the top of her head wasn't cut off, because there's not a lot of interest in the background on the righthand side. At least for me.

I am getting a sense of deja vu here. :) I liked the first one, and I like this one. Your models eyes are quite captivating. My only complaint might be the blown area on her neck.

Cheers

I don't like the head chopped off, especially as the bottom of the frame holds little interest. The hair across the eye detracts as well for me, as the appeal of the image to me lies in the eyes and expression. That said, it's certainly a captivating shot, lighting is good apart from the hot spot mentioned by Matt, and B&W works well. I'd try cropping closer and/or sticking her head back in if you have it :)
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

it is a gem - beautiful
can't fault it

but perhaps if you want a more dramatic framing crop it tighter so the top frame is just above her eyebrows

Nice sultry image. The only advice I could give would be to keep people off the background. It solves the shadow problem and the background will be more out of focus. I don't mind at all that the head is cropped tight at the top.

Would have to say , it certainly is a gem.

I find the piece of hair accross her eye distracting though.

Great work

Essentially the portrait is terrific :) I would, if given the chance to shoot again try to try a couple with closed mouth and one subltey parted look but i feel the little gap in the corner detracts from an otherwise great sultry look. I think i like the hair shading the eye adds a little mystery, perhaps to get picky remove the one or two strands across the centre of the pupil
cheers

I like it - with the head chopped off and the hair in the eyes. The expression is moody and intense. Great work.

Fixed some of the hair up and brushed slightly over the hotspots.

Her eyes are so engaging, and you've captured a terrific pose, particularly in teh second image, they have very different deels to the image, the first being a "harder" edgeyer type of image, the second having a dreamy feminine feel, miss the catchlights in the eyes though...

Like the way you've used the light too...

Excellent portraits...

Vort, depending how it is viewed, if viewed on a monitor the background is bright relative to your modelor monitor use maybe clip the range of the white slightly. I find her right ear is almost luminous so a little distracting as I keep being drawn to it. Maybe a touch of front lighting, maybe from a reflector? I think it would print beautifully.

if your going to shoot again just be aware of the dark spot on her rigt cheeck

you can balance it out with a reflective surface of some sort

beautiful portrait otherwise, who is the lovely young lady?

Cheers guys.

When shooting the idea was to get a sillhouette happening, however I didn't like the idea so much when I looked at the shots. I will upload the original shot to show how much it has differed. Also as such the reflector is actually behind the model :) We were using one of the 3 in one reflector/diffuser things and we stuck the diffuser behind Elle in this shot... but now that I've done this shot I've come up with some ideas for similiar shots so mark my words you shall be seeing some more images in this style only with alot more direction :)

http://nicknav.ath.cx:81/_DSC3887outofcam.jpg direct image from cam, on my home connection so it will be slow, be patient :)
As you can see, the original (RAW, all default settings applied in Photoshop) is extremely different and took a fair bit of work to get where it was now. I'm very happy with the result however :)

edit: wendell, she is a close friend of mine.

Wow, that is some great PP'ing you've done there. The 2nd image you posted looks great, looking at the original I would have thought it was a no-goer.

Refresh the image, I dodged the left cheek slightly to get rid of the bruise like shadow.
