Second String Wedding Photographer
Went to my Niece's wedding a week or two ago, got some good shots even though I wasn't the main photographer. I played second string to a professional using a Canon (EOS 20D I think)
I was experimenting with Lab Colour Greyscale conversion and thought the results looked OK. Comments appreciated.

 I like the B&W treatment. And you've captured a very happy candid moment.
Smac when you did the lab greyscale converstion did you multiply the layer and tweak the opacity on the top layer to get the tone you wanted, or did you just use one layer and curves?

Michael, I duplicated the layer, used mulitply and tweaked opacity to 30%.
MATT, the crop was a little tight but there were some distractions on the dance floor that I couldn't be bothered cloning out so did the tight crop Matt K, the colour version can be seen at the link address, here is a quick duotone version for comparison. I used the D200 on this image but I used both cameras at the wedding. 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
In general I like the shot. Good moment, and nicely exposed
However, something about the flatness of the background bothers me, especially as you can see the shadow of the bride's head. I guess I'd prefer to have something in the background instead of a blank wall.. Maybe if it was a little darker? Also the groom's head is a bit close to the edge of frame. Don't get me wrong though, I'm just nit-picking here, I think it's a great shot
smac, I think I like the sepia one better. Seems to give it more depth than the b/w and prefer it to the colour. I checked out your other photos as well. I particularly like "The Guests" the pano group shot.

This is a great natural capture. While i think you've done a superb B & W tonal conversion on this I prefer the colour version on the website for its extra warmth and the slight touch of shadow on the background that gives a little more depth. Peter

you did a good job on the B&W conversion, but I prefer the colour version as well.
Townsville, so it says on Stuart's web page  . Also the car in one of the photos is a right-hand drive, so also unlikely to be the US

Radar, how observant are you? Picked up the RHD car, I had to take a second look myself as I didn't recall including the car in any of the images. 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
stuart i thought the NQ stood for some state overseas otherwise say Townsville QLD
