Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I was down at turrimetta beach in the bitter cold at 6am taking this shot

Sea Mist

when who should come along but Glamy and lostdingo to join in the fun
I recognized glamy from a mini meet but it was a first time meeting lostdingo
and as usual when meeting forum members I learnt a bit more about the art of photography... I love this site :)
sorry I couldn't stay longer but would love to organize another get together some time

comments etc. welcome

I don't think the French can drown :P

He did well Thanh.....never even got wet :!: I on the other hand had wet feet agin :x Gerard was supposed to come to get his feet wet and D2x, not me :!:

Thanh, glamy did manage to get his feet wet early on, when surprised by the backwash from a large wave when he was out on the rocks... but he held on to his D2x and kept it dry :)
in fact we all got our feet wet

Geoff, the sea was far from calm and serene, but a 202 second exposure will fix that :)

Lovely, muted tones - gorgeous shot :)

How do you work out exposure when doing really long shots like this? I was out last night doing a similar thing, and ended up just guessing the exposure time. Is there a more scientific approach?

Patrick - I am not sure if there is a more specific or scientific 'rule' that is applied. We are lucky in the digital world that it's a trial and error thing - shoot at different exposure times until you get the desired result. Don't like it - delete key :)

Wonderful photo Keith. The early morning start and cold, wet feet were definitely worth it! You can include me in the list of people to contact you go out next time if you're up for the company. :)
