I love mucking around with 3d but have never posted one.

Here you go

If you've never done it before basically just look at the 2 shots and go cross eyed then merge the two images and it will spring to life, so to speak

Mate, this would have been great on April 1st, I've tried like crazy to get cross eyed but I can't do it. Good thing I'm alone in front of the computer otherwise I'd find myself in a stray jacket by now.

Different people have different abilities to see things in 3D. Some peoples brains are better adapted to being able to fuse the two images (and some people actually can't do it at all)

Some tips-

1. These images are wide apart, so you actually have to go very cross-eyed - much more than doing one of those "magic eye" pictures.

2. Get your face closer to the screen.

3. Make sure you head is horizontal - if your head is on an angle it will be very tough...

Yep... too far apart for me. I'm normally pretty good at these things but my eyes don't stretch this far.

OK... I've mastered the art of seeing the 3D image... but I'm still wondering how you produced the two images? What's the technique?

This goes back to the days when I had an old Olympus Pen FT 1/2 frame SLR. I got the idea from the old Viewmasters where you put in a circular card which contains 2 images of multiple subjects. You look through two eyepieces to see both images in 3d. I used to take two shots using slide film (as they were 1/2 frame it didn't cost any more) and then view them using a couple of Agfa Guppi viewers. Bingo. 3d slides

I then saw that you could do the same thing with a couple of prints and just use your eyes and brain to focus on each image separately to give the same effect.

Now with digital I just do it on the screen.

To take the photos I just move the viewpoint a couple of inches across (the distance your eyes are apart) and take the 2 shots. Some work better than others and sometimes (as in the case of the snake shot above) you can just fluke a 3d.

When I was taking the snake photos (teh hand held ones anyway) I was moving around a lot taking lots of shots. The two you see above were taken moments apart from a slightly different position.

Snake 3Ds are the new Duck shots. I managed to get the 3d first up. Very nice.
Can you do this with two images of the one shot rather than taking two photo's?

No, you need the two different perspectives. Same as you see from each eye a slightly different view.

No I could never do this some photo interpreters could just see stereo I never could there is a merge lens binocular thingy that makes it easy but I still had trouble using one of those.

I do have very divided brain lobes My left and right brain do not communicate well.

I used to love standing in front of the Magic Eye things saying "THAT IS DISGUSTING!" the people around would say "Why it is just dolphins" or whatever, I would just tell them "I see two lesbian mud wrestlers and a donkey and they should not put pictures like that up in public!!!!!!"

I was thinking I have different contact lenses too!

My left eye is a close up lens for reading my right eye has a distance lens for taking photos.

if anyone needs contact lenses this is a great way to wear them and makes using cameras much easier.
