First Macro with 35-70 f2.8dI am instantly happy with this lens - nice soft out of focus (after 2 goes at sharpening!) and in macro mode - beautiful - here just a field across the top right of the lighter and the base of the lighter just 5cm away is so out of focus it fades into the desk!

A nice image Justin, and bokeh. Do you know how many blades the aperture uses on the lens? Another query I have if we turn the issue around the other way, what is the largest depth of field you think the lens is capable of in macro?
In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.

Come follow the rabbit hole...
Haven;t counted the blades but by my quick point at the lighter again about 3cm at f2.8 closest focus, with about 1cm being v.sharp

This lens is a secret gem. A great lens especially on film. Back in the old days of film 35mm was considered wide angle. For general all round shots this was a great focal length to keep on the film camera.
The price on ebay is way under what the actual worth of these lenses are.
Yeah, this is a top lens. For a fast walk-around-lens, you can't beat this lens for quality and price!
For those who want to get into some pro glass relatively cheap, this is the place to start. Andrew
Canon make photocopiers and stick lenses on them....
Great Justin. You are definitely going to be happy with it. I've even gone to the trouble of buying a 62 to 77 mm stepup ring so I can use my canon 500D closeup lens with it.
![]() As for portraits it's great. Lovely neutral colours. Generally great colour rendition. Typical of quality Nikon glass. ![]() ![]() cheers marco
How do you switch it to macro mode? Does it focus all the way, or do you have to switch something?
I was thinking it might be a good lens for UW use, but only if you can focus from infinity to macro using AF.
Zoom all the way out (it's a reverse zoom, so in is 70mm and out is 35mm)
Then press the little silver button and rotate clockwise about an inch to switch to macro. I also haven't figured out AF in macro mode so have done it all MF D3 | 18-200VR | 50:1.4 | 28:2.8 | 35-70 2.8 | 12-24 f4
