It was great to have you along Hash and I'm pleased you saw the day as a learning experience.

I wouldn't be hard on your shots though - it may surprise you to know that your Movement, Mulit-coloured and Gainfully Employed images were actually Bernie's and my second choices in those categories! You were pipped by such a small margin it almost didn't matter. We deliberated for ages over them - they were really good.

I really liked your Sculptured Animal image as well especially the angle.

Great work all round.

I agree, many others sounded like they were unhappy with their photos out of the camera. But then again some of the "no crop" compositions were excellent for the time we had. I think that's what I'd really like to work on from now on.

Here are the originals converted from RAW using "as shot" settings for ACR

Everything looks flat and uninteresting... I probably need to tweak the contrast controls and submit only jpgs!

Big Red, I think you and I had the same idea for "showing it's age" I scoured the city for an old bike too!

Nice shots, all of them. This sort of get together helps everyone learn a little more about what to do and how to do it. Glad to hear you had a good time.
Keep up the good work.

Like you wouldn't believe! Plus I was lugging around my housemate's manfrotto 190 tripod (wish I had mark's carbon fiber jobbie).

I subconsciously left the tripod at my lunch stop just to lighten my load, but I freaked out the next time I went to use it and realised I didn't have it!!!

Great set of shots there Hash. I particually like your movement, showing it's age and from above shots.
I hope the tripod was there when you returned to get it?

My dad said it was a "young player's mistake" (Thanks Dad!)

Thankfully the tripod was still there!

Just out of curiosity, what settings did people have in their camera, given the tendancy for D70s (and the D200) to give neutral images. Did anyone run 2+ sharpening or 1+ contrast and saturation? I'd be interested to get the most out of my jpgs so I don't have to fiddle with too many raw files.

Thanks to all for the comments, was anyone thinking of meeting up for River fire, I could do with some tips for fireworks?
