Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Some Portraits
G'day All,
A few months ago I attended my Sisters Debutante Ball, and I organized to get some photos of her before she left. This is the first time I have done anything at all like this, what do you think? And how could I make them better next time? 
The first two were taken with the 50/1.8, the last one on my 28-105. Lighting was provided by 2x Metz 45CT4's, reflected in umbrellas. Cheers, Tristan Canon User

Tristan, I like, I would have probably tried another background colour as well as I feel the first 2 backgrounds are too close to her hair colour. Then again, a PP whiz here will be able to change to any colour in 2 mins.
Thanks for that Glen, that had not even occurred to me! The background was the usual $10 double bed sheet.

AActually, the similarity of the colours needn't be an issue, if you can point an extra flash head at the background and illuminate it separately.
This would provide a layer of separation between the subject and the background, and it's a very useful technique to keep in mind. g.

Here's a quick and dirty alteration just using the magic wand, new layer and a hue/sat adjustment. Dead easy. Happy to remove this, Tristan, if you prefer.

Nice work! You go to the trouble to set up the shoot and you get rewarded with good shots. I would have liked to have seen the light a little softer or more diffused (same thing). Also a bit more speration of the lights would have aided in more modelling. Keep at it and watch the masterpieces appear! Regards
