Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Yes i'm no expert.... I am on a mission to learn all about PSCS2 as i am planning a photog business sumtime early next year, i am very much a learner and am studying like mad and pointing my new EOS 400D at anything and everything.......
I used to play around with paint shop pro a bit but now im trying to learn about layers in CS2......its all great reading on the net and books about it but its tricky learning the full i can do experience... (i will offically introduce myself to the forum in a post at some later date  )
anyway here's my first 5min play

thought id add a few from my old camera...my fuji S5000....i was very happy with it for a year and a half till i saw the 400D
 then my 21st was on the 16th DEC so i managed to smile enough to get my MRS to get it for me  so the world of full on DSLR has just opened up

hehe just started using RAW yesterday
i set the cam to spit out 1 RAW and one JPG for every photo
i've almost figured out total manuel control now my old fuji was very senstive even with changing just one f stop it could screw the whole foto up.
RAW still scares me  i played with one image last night and ended up making it an off green colour  then couldnt manage to revert it.
PC --SAVE?" ME-- "no go to hell....time to start again"
You may want to check your software, as most I have seen have a 'revert to as shot' or 'remove all adjustments' that will let you go back to scratch. Either that or work on a copy....
What software are you using? I think you said canon, if so, Digital Photo Professional has an item under the 'Adjustments' menu 'Revert to shot settings' that should fix it up, as well as a 'Revert to last saved settings' Raw is the way to go for sure....

Er, no. Thet would be the photographer screwing things up. If you're not comfy with the camera or the settings, then it's a great idea to make the time to learn and understand them, and how they affect your images. Likewise any PP software that you care to use. Certainly, shooting in raw is a great way to start learning, and then always work with a copy of your file. That way, should the inevitable occur, you can always start again with another copy of your original file. Also understand that jpg is a destructive format - every time that you do somethign to a jpg, and then save it, you will lose some of the data that makes up the image. This means that the image file will start to be degraded, which you may correctly surmise is not exactly a good thing: save either as raw, tiff, or in psd. One of the good things about Nikon raw is that it saves any changes that you might make as parameters that are applied to the file, rather than actual changes that alter the image. This means that any changes may be undone. I would expect that Canon raw would have a similar feature: look for that capability and then anything that you do will no longer be something from which you cannot recover.
Why? It's just a means of saving a file, and it's a very forgiving one. Learn its - and your - capabilities. g.

What i was trying to say was that a small change in the taking of a photo makes a massive difference to the final picture.
It seems with my old Fuji that u have 2 extremes no matter how u try e.g. the photo always is either over exposed or under, no matter how much u change the settings its very hard to find a medium ground and get a decent foto... With my 400D it's so beautiful, when u change a setting u see the effect immediatly and there's so much "medium" ground to work with that u can get a beautiful range of images. with the fuji u can take say 50 photos and only one is "perfect" in a way where u get a decent histogram, no blur and perfect focus. whereas the canon will take 25-30 great workable shots out of 50. I am using RAW now and learning its processes fast Also i have started building my new PC for gaming and everyday use so that i can dedicate this PC for my fotos and processing/running the business as it only has an 80gig HDD and i only have 4gb left which makes processing very slow atm 
Can u tell i'm over the moon with the 400D? As i say i want to start a photog business i am putting massive thought and hours of research into this....u may all think oh here we go but i am VERY serious. I also think it is a good time to at least try my best as Photography is a hobby of mine but not one which i am highly serious about, thus if it becomes as many do something that i dont like doing all the time at least i wont have lost a hobby that i am and have always been heavily involved in.. Yes i will need to come a long way before i can produce perfect photos and processed images, but i am highly drivin and will not give up. This is one idea of a business that i can see as working and being as big and/or as small as my control will allow it to be. This forum has been a massive help over the last few weeks and i would love to meet some of you who are amazingly skilled and great people. I am sounding intensly nerdy here but this is just something i wish to put my heart to as i have had quite a major struggle setting up a life in Aus over the last 2 years since i shifted here from NZ not knowing anyone and working really hard to get what i have now, i just wish to set things up the way i want and i believe i am capable of doing this so y not have a go? my goal of running it myself part-time means i have nothing to lose
i took a few pics over the last few days and thought id share 2... the dog is my MRS's sisters....called Angel The Girl is sum distant relation of my Mrs's  hehe well u can't expect me to remember them all!!!
And well the fish is in my tank 
These photo's have had NO editing done, only resized for the net! Bear in mind i am still playing and getting a feel to the new 400D yes i am in love with it!!!
hmm a new attempt tonight of the moon of course!
my 300mm lens not quite up for the range and had to enlarge the image alot...also im starting to get the feel for the RAW process, i ended up with a strange hue around the edge sum how
