Kirribilli SunriseI know it's SUCH a cliche but, hey, it was my first trip to Sydney in 25 years and I did get up at 5.00am for it.

Wow! Certainly worth getting up at 5am for I think...I might be tempted to crop it into a pano...but its great just as it is!!

Never argue with a lady (or two in this case!) Here's the pano version; it runs a bit deep in the foreground but I really wanted to retain those blue reflections:

Very nice....
![]() Now if you could just arrange some rowers in the left foreground and maybe a hot air balloon or two in the sky it would be cracking...*wink* The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...

Magic Simon!
You'd be crazy not to have this printed!! Geoff

Hi Simon,
I'd be interested to know how much (and what if possible) post processing you've done to this image? Mind sharing? ![]() Geoff

As the city sleeps Mr Manta slyly slips out into the pre-dawn quiteness to take one of the best pics I have seen in a long time of this city.
I much prefer the uncropped version ![]() Chris

Great photo Simon,
your printer certainly comes in handy for this one ![]() ![]() I also find the cropped version just a bit too tight, I probably would have liked a bit more of the sky. Simon,
I too think this is a great image, and that it looks great in a pano crop ... but leave the sky uncropped, and crop from the bottom instead. Try it and tell us what you think. ![]() And it was great to meet you and your lovely family. I'm probably a bit disappointed that we didn't get too much time to chat one on one, but c'est la vie. g.

Me too Gary - I was under the impression the disparate groups would all get together again as the night wore on but before that occurred the mini-Mantas were flagging significantly and we still had the walk across the bridge to deal with. Just a good excuse for me to come back down again I guess! Thanks all for the comments on the shot. I'll try out the suggestions. There's more to come too, I'm afraid! ![]() Simon

Stunning shot Simon! Lovely capture.
I'm afaid I don't like getting up that early these days! I'll sit on the fence here as I like both the original and the cropped version. In the cropped version I would have liked a little more sky (or maybe less foreground). Cheers, Mick ![]() ![]() ![]()
Okay - here's another crop, with nothing taken off the sky. Better?

Simon - that final rework is the one - it needed the sky too. And I was disappointed I didn't get to meet you, but a Sunday night in Sydney followed by a drive back to Newcastle for work the next day is too much for my tired old(ish) body
