Not usually really happy with a photo of the boy, but this time I was very happy with the way this one came out. Some curves adjustment in PS to darken out the background more than it already was. And a bit of spot healing to remove the remnants of his lunch ;)

He was happily playing with a hammer at the dining room table, I haven't checked for dents yet...

Brett,

I don't like kids' shots.

Mostly.

There is always an exception to every rule, and you've certainly created an exceptional shot here. The smile and the eye contact, along with the way the compositon has been creeated, are senbloodymazing!

I's like to see a little more work done on the wb of this though, it looks a little cyan or blue to me.

gorgeous little one - and I'd kill for those eyelashes :) !!!!

Agree it's a great portrait - just needs a little more pp to address the issues already raised, and will be a corker :)

Well done

Yes it was a little cool, mind you the WB was set to flash, but fc was down a bit.

I have also taken out the reflections in the eyes too. Let me know what you think. Comparing to the original it looks a little warm now... Hard to say, I really have trouble with skin tones at times.

Brett,

I think it still a bit of warming up, and I also think that pulling the catchlights is not a good idea: they add life to the eyes, and this is now gone.

I agree with Gary, Put his eyes back to how there were captured.

I actually prefer the first.Just play with the image to warm up his skin a little.

Excellent pic I'm sure you are proud of.

I do agree with the reflections in the pupil, just wanted to put it up so that others would see the difference it makes.

I told you I had trouble with skin tones. I'll warm it up more when I get home tonight. I think the big problem is that it was so cool to begin with that changes (even small) look drastically different to me and I am comparing the two rather than looking at the final product...

Thanks for your comments they are invaluable!

Try in PS apply a PhotoFilter under Adjustments.. choose a warming filter 85 or 81 then reduce the filter to a level that looks better/more natural. A little contrast for good measure

I'm not expert, I tried it on your original file and it came up quite well.

No No No.....
Please put the catchlights back....please....
Serves as a great example as to why you NEED catchlights in eyes.

Oh they are going back in, believe me. I'll put up the re-edited (hopefully a better whitebalance / skin tone) this afternoon.

Thanks,

Print it big.

Very big.

Bigger than what you're thinking right now, even.

Frame it.
