....... just take off....... this fellow was a bit shy, he has lost some feathers on the upper part of the chest area, a lot of Red Wattle birds around here and they tend to pick on the Lorries.......

The area of sharp focus seems to be slightly in front of the bird and the bird itself looks a little soft.

the area is directly under the bird and on the same plane as his eye, the angle the shot was taken at is a tad misleading........ shooting wide open with a 1.4tc at 420mm yes he is a little soft in the body

Very nice capture Bernie, the lori is very nicely positioned in the shot. It is just a tad soft but you did extremely well to handhold at the shutter speed used. A bit of a higher ISO would have served you well here withouth affecting quality no the D2Xs.

Very nice soft background as well.

shot at 400iso and this is about 60% of the original image..... I am finding that the 120-300 2.8 Sigma is not very forgiven with DOF when shooting wide open...... stopped down 1 1/2 to 2 stops it is fantastic but not always possible. The Bigma gives slightly better results with only stopped down half a stop, but with all new Len's there is a learning curve and I have shot very little with this new 2.8 Sigma, but will fix that next week on location......... after my weight lifting sessions so I can hand hold this beast longer than 2 minutes

As a portrait of a bird, the angle and looks of the bird is excellent. The colourful foliage also enhances the image. Nice work.
