EOI [SYD] Sunset 26 Sep - Bare Island

Postby surenj on Fri Sep 24, 2010 12:25 am

Yep, as usual, I am itching to go out again on a bit of sunset chasing...

Any suggestions on locations etc...

We can revert to the sunrises after daylight savings....

How about bare island, or the other side of the last sunrise we did there?

Will do. Meeting time will be 5pm. Sunset is close to 6pm today.

I hope the clouds will be as good as yesterday; it was a ripper then! Currently it looks promising.

Wow that was quick for images. I like the first there Gerry, but the 2nd looks a bit overcooked, is it a HDR?

If I don't do it now, it could take months ;)

No hdr on either, second does look a bit cooked, however the colours were pretty nice in that sunset.

I know what you mean Gerry.

I wasnt sure if it was a HDR, but that red sun really does look over cooked...must have been some sunset!

Good images Gerry...enhanced by some lovely green rocks in the foreground :o
The second image could be improved by evening up the exposure across the frame The RHS appears to be a lot darker than the rest of the image.
Like the way you have used the rock shelf in #1 to lead the eye into the image. Shame there wasnt any sky colour for #1...perhaps you could add some for impact :)

Gerry,

#1 has great composition with the lines. I would like to see a calmer water version where the bottom is not too blurred. Watch that D-light slider though...ease up on it a little.

#2 Looks very representative of what I saw that day. Loved those orange tones reflecting on the clouds. We don't have a good history with clouds but we seem to have improving on those lately...

Where is the rest of them?

I love my green rocks, as you are probably well aware of :rotfl2:

I agree with trying to draw out a bit more light in the second to even up the exposure

I like the blurred water verison better to be honest, I do have another version where teh water is more clear and you can see the detail in the underwater items - however the frame gets muddled as to where to look, the sharp distinct green rock amounst the unfocussed water really draws the viewer in and locks them there! the rest is complimentary and should not compete imo.

yeah, sometimes the colours are intense and they do look fake, but I agree there was certianly alot of red in that sunset due the haze and teh picture is pretty close to what I saw.

I am getting there, I have not had a spare moment to scratch myself. :rotfl2:

I love the tones in this picture Gerry.... I think that D-lighting or whatever you have done pre or post is just right...did you use a grad for this?

in this one I recovered quite a large amount of shadow - I did however have the GND on and it was angle quite strongly, basically the top lefthand corner and intersecting the righthand side of the bridge.

FYI here is the original unmodded image - pretty big difference!

Hmm... Thanks for posting this.

I reckon one could use a soft grad + hard grad on a horizontal while overexposing slightly. Then pull back the highlights on the right? Would that be better in terms of noise control?

We've neglected to feature the happy couple who were the subject of the 200 2.8. Also checking if this is sharper than the previously posted images

Ray, nice one. Like the framing. This image is nice and sharp. It's a smidgen small though.

Was it not a 200 f2?
