Being in Spain last week, I proceeded to miss the birth of our second granddaughter! (We had thought junior was going to arrive before I left for Europe. The little blighters never seem to co-operate... :rotfl2:) Anyway, here is junior together with her much photographed older sister, courtesy Fuji 35mm goodness. The everlasting smoky skies up here on the NSW north coast at least give some good diffused light for photos.

Because I can. :)

These are about 25% in size of the full pano files.

I think that they're both from Zabriskie Point

Death Valley - Artists' Pallette

One of the most amzing things within Death Valley is the colours. Or the absence of them.

The colours are many and varied, but also somewhat monotone, which is perhaps why photos of Death Valley look so damn good in B&W. I am hoping to convert some of these to mono versions in the not too dstant future, but for now I'm just enjoying the variety of tonal contrasts that wre evident here.

Our final stop was here, where the rock faces resemble somewhat an actual pallette that an artist might use. And then there's the blue-green colour here, ...

Lots of boulders, encrusted with the natural salts after the evaporation of the water from the natural springs.

After a lunch break at the visitors' Center at Furnace Creek, it was off to Badwater Basin.

Badwater basin is on the valley floor; 200 feet below sea level. Quite warm in October, but bloody hot in mid-summer. In one of the images you can see, off to the left in the distance, lots of people walking out into the basin. Don't do this unless you have a bottle of water with you.

Fresh water: the water here is a natural spring, but contains mineral salts and is not drinkable. and as you're below sea level and in a valley, this water never drains i ...

Our second stop was Zabriskie Point. Some of you may remember the movie. I do, althogh I expect most here would never have heard of it.

About 1000 feet above sea level, and a lot warmer than Dante's View.
