Luckiest guy!

Why? Cos I have got an understanding fiance! She said yes to the 85mm 1.4!!
What's better she even agreed (ok..reluctantly) to pose for some initial shots.

These are the first images from the camera. No PP sharpening, just curves adjustment, crop and resizing.

One happy camper here

The colour pics look a bit too subdued. Were these inadvertantly stiil in aRGB colorspace? PS Update your camera's user comment too - it's still got 2006 on it.

OK Geoff I'm being quite tough on you here.

#1 is not at all flattering because of the forced distortion of the pose and the OOF right eye doesn't help.

#2 is better, but Bel looks a little awkardly posed. It doesn't look relaxed or natural somehow

#3 has a much better candid and relaxed feel to it, but the OOF right eye still lets you down a little

#4 is a good image - shows the lens off well and has great bokeh - you look overjoyed and it's a great natural image

I was about to say that the lens is obviously no good, but then I saw the one you subsequently posted of Bel. That image has ALL the qualities that the others lacked. The pose is wonderful, the image is so sharp my eyeballs are bleeding and the really piercing eyes just compel you to look at the image. Excellent.

I obviously have a bit to learn with this new lens - bear in mind that these were the very first images taken with the camera when it was only about 20 minutes 'young'

Seriously, to sound repetitive, the last one you posted really shows up why the lens (which I don't have) is a great portrait lens. The last photo is one of those ones where even the subject (if, like me, doesn't like being photographed) would be happy to see.
