Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Thanks for taking the time to send me some feedback, Craig, I appreciate it.
![]() The original colour version has terrible light. Too harsh. I wanted black and white because I thought the stone would have interesting tones and texture. But I'm thinking that it doesn't really stand out enough from the background, the dark trees. I was wanting to salvage the photo in some way though because I like the composition. The post processing was fun. I'll keep experimenting. ![]() Doug C.
I personally think that this is not the right kind of treatment to bring out the texture in the stone, rather for me its providing a new texture for the whole photos (that acid wash feel). Not sure what sort of treatment might be more appropriate but if you want to bring out the texture of the stone I'd keep to something that preserved the texture a little more (it's 5am here up troubleshooting for Singapore so I hope I make a modicum of sense).
This is the step after trying to bring out the tones and textures of the stone.
