20.11.05 - Wedding

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Couple of shots which I don't mind from a wedding on Sunday. Was a great day. CC more than welcome. PS: The vignetting is added by me in postprocessing.... nothing to do with lenses I was using ;)

#1 Like this one, great affect with the OOF, and that grass looks really nice :)

#2 I like how the yellow in the background ties into the yellow ribbons, but I don't like the chair being cut off on the right.

#3 Kiss is nice, intimate lighting (they should love it).

#4 I like the idea of this one, but I reckon the groom ruins this shot for me.. I'd crop him out and keep the bride.. I think it's partly his smile, mostly he's looking at the camera..(he should be looking at her) and partly he's a little too OOF... like I said love the idea.. but I think he's letting the shot down.. (while she's spot on..)

#5 Hmmm, different angle which is ok.. but don't like how close the crop is on the flowers and loosing part of her arm / hand

#6 Is a nice blokey shot, I'd clone out the light post... maybe even the vegetation on the left of the far right bloke

#6 Nice shot would of been great to see a little more of the brides eyes

Open you don't mind I've tried to really isolate anything I saw as a problem in your shots... (nothing personal ) I think lately I've been a little to excited and not giving people contructive criticism to help improve there shots.... please bear in mind I know nothing about Wedding photography and a lot of the faults are issues with the "customer/models" not the pilot behind the camera.

thankyou....

50mmm f1.8 for the ceremony... 70-200vr for the reception.... switched between 50mm f1.8 and an 18-50mm lens for inbetween shots.

Hi Mark,

the stand out one for me is the last one. the expression on the groom's face tells me: ok now all of that crap is out of the way, let the fun begin. The Bride is saying: Oh my god I'm really in for a night of it now......

Good Shots overall, Wedding Photography is always a curse, they always expect you to make a silk purse out of a sows ear :lol:

Mark, you have done well mate i think they look ok, i would be happy with these as i ahve not done a wedding yet i cant say whats good and whats not but i am sure they would like these pictures and well seemed to have worked out well.

Mark - as already stated...mate...thse are great but the kissing one is my fave too, big time...it's powerful, emotive and captures the way they're feeling towards each other brilliantly! I'm sure they'll love it!! :) Well done!

No's 1 and 2 don't work for me. Too abstract for a wedding. The rest are excellent with the "kiss" being the standout shot. Nice work with the black and white. Also love the blokey shot...second last. I think your clients will be happy.

First one and the kiss are great. With the couple shots I just wonder how much better they would have been if the man was looking at the bride, rather than the camera?

thankyou Matt... The blokey shot is my favourite from the day... captures the mischief they were up to :)

maximus... you are spot on... that is what I wanted the groom to do but he was having too much fun pulling faces etc....

marco... fire chasing has been a little slow of late... been trying to find a balance between that work and getting back into my wedding photography etc...

b&w can often be overdone and cliched, but your shots are always appropriately treated and always add to the photo - very nice... should have clients lining up left right and centre!

bride: white bridesmaids: pastel light yellow.

midday wedding are horrible to shoot.. especially outdoors.... far too much light around and can really test your metering.

If you can handle youn kids say 4-7 years in a shoot at a wedding then yes, you would be considered as super dooper!

Considering I've got a 3 & 6 year old - I'd say that if you can handle 3-7 year olds, a wedding, people running late, and doing all this late afternoon/evening then you are superman!

Some absolutely beautiful pictures here. Your B&W treatment is really nice and really creates an evocative atmosphere. #3 and 4 are particularly good.
