Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Cute blue lizard

I was purging images from my hard drive, when I came across this one. I don't think I've published it yet - but it was taken at Central Park Zoo, during my time in New York a while ago.

Shot at ISO500, and as far as I remember, I had not used noise reduction software. Handheld, & shot thru display glass. Kit lens at 60mm wide open, 1/30s.


Apparently I'm a harsh critic, so feel free to give me a taste of my own medicine. I welcome equally harsh criticism. :)


Edit: sorry for the pop up IE users... you really should use a pop-up blocker. ;)

Onyx, what about a couple of SB800's to light the background? It is as dark as all hell in there.

That's a dodgy shot mate... did you take that with a 1mp hp jobbie?

I like the shot... a little more light around his head would really bring the shot to life. was this taken through glass? if so, well done not showing any reflection etc.

Compositionally, was it okay being in the middle? I dislike the placement of thirds, and I don't think it would have worked in this case, as the creature would be staring into darkness.

G'day,
I have trouble getting good shots through glass and this looks really natural colors etc. seems really nice and sharp too...

Re: noise reduction, I don't think I've used it since moving to the D70, haven't noticed any noise unless I push shadows up too much...

WB was set to tungsten, according to EXIF. So that must've matched the lighting well. And the reason there aren't any glass reflections is due to all that blackness you see. It was one of those dark indoor enclosures and everyone had their PHD cams with flashes inconsiderately going off constantly.

Great shot mate & under the circumstance well done.
1/30 is hard to get pin sharp, hand held :shock:

As for the thirds thing, I can say when taking photos that rule never enters my head.
Never used it!!!!! :?
