Some more pics with the Sigma 105.

I've been trying for months to get some good shots of these little bees.

Mission Sucessful! I'd be more then proud to put these shots in my album they are great! Has much post processing been done to these ? Or are they straight from the camera ? This are top notch in my opinion.

I love number 1 and 4!

I've chased these little things around the garden before... twitchy!!

I *think* they are hover flies... not bees.

Thanks for the comments...

Nothing too drastic. A little cropping, contrast adjustment, and a small increase in saturation for the 1st pic.

NikonUser wrote:I *think* they are hover flies... not bees.

Hmmm, I've heard others call them hover flies before too. I've always known them as native bees.
Maybe someone can enlighten us both.

These two suggest that they are indeed hover flies.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've renamed my post accordingly.

Nice work !!!

can you please provide some exif info and an idea of working distance etc for these shots... I'm finding myself getting quite interested in doing some macro but need to workout what the best lens options would be for me.

cheers.

I like them GC. Particularly the wings on #3. They are sharp as. Could I suggest a higher f number (f22 or more) to get the entire bee as sharp as the wings.

Well done.

Cheers John

I'm not real sure. :) I was looking through the lens.
Somewhere in the order of 3 to 6 inches.

Strewth, there's been some terrific macro shots posted recently, and these are great! Sharp as a tack and very very detailed, and the framing in #4 is excellent...

More please :)

I can thank the fly for these shots. It stayed around for a good half hour.
Ended up with about 150 shots.

LOve #3 as I think the fact that you are taking the shot from above the Hover Fly and that the Hover Fly itself is very much in focus that I wish that I could get a decent shot that can compare slightly to your shot!! Atleast 45% of your shot anyways!!! Great work and I WANT to see more of them!!!

Cheers

Beautiful shots - syrphids, or hover flies, are fantastic little flies !!!! I adore the first shot - shows off the arista (the single hair looking extension on the antennae) superbly.
And as for the shot of the dynopid - the spider, ......sigh, lovely :)
