Lancelin Fires

Hiya All ... trust all are well. havent posted here in a while!

Anyhoo, nothing too special, however on NY day myself and friends decided on a whim to visit a friend at remote wedge island, north of lancelin .. on the way up we were redirected due to fire, and then as we came into town, we were the last cars to get through as fire had raced up ridge line and all roads in and out were closed ... from around 4pm to 11.30pm. We went north through defence force land, couldnt find our mate, so headed back to lancelin at sunset, only to find the road still shut.

Eventually we were escorted through the fire zone, which was a very eerie scene, paddocks half ablaze, with hundreds of fire appliances up on ridge lines blinking in the distance ... 40km/h for 40km's. It was a long day

ANyway, i only managed to snap pics of the smoke billowing toward us, we were moved on pretty quickly!

interesting shots with the smoke, some of these almost appear as a dust storm would.

Looks like you have some very nice scenery to work with, when there are no bishfires.

That must have been eerie and scary driving through that area, good reminder for the season...

That last shot with all the grass plants (being PC now-days  ) would make a great sunset spot... Those plants look pre-historic... Down Wilson's Prom way, they were massive with 4-5 spikes probably up to 10' high coming out, stunning things... Hmmm, must get back down there...

It's amazing how much smoke can come out of a grass fire. I hope no one was hurt. You would want to be careful wandering around Lancelin defence area as there is a lot of unexploded ordnance laying about.
